Still have Christmas shopping left to do? (I do.) Here are some last-minute gift ideas inspired by, and from companies in, Michigan.

Edible Souvenirs

Zingerman’s – all things foodie, including artisanal cheeses and olive oils, homemade breads, corned beef and pastrami sandwich kits and more.

American Spoon Foods – great preserves, salsas and sauces from Michigan fruit. (Love the URL.)

Benjamin Twiggs – “all things cherry”: jams, jellies, snacks, sauces and salsas.

Cherry Republic — also all things cherry, from preserves and trail mix to dog treats and business gift baskets. Clever marketing; these guys make me laugh. The organic chipotle cherry salsa I bought was …. let’s just say the jar didn’t take up space in the fridge very long.

Oh My Lolli – A hip spin on the old-time candy store. Clever merchandising and friendly staff. They do a lot of custom packaging–great for corporate gifts.

Fustini’s – infused olive oils and balsamic vinegars; if you live here or are visiting, it’s worth a stop to sample the wares in the company’s tasting rooms: Petoskey, Traverse City, Ann Arbor and Holland.

Music

Song of the Lakes – “Great Lakes World Music.” Great performers.

Marcus Belgrave – Jazz trumpeter; also a great performer.

Lots more links to Detroit-area jazz and blues musicians through the Southeastern Michigan Jazz Association.

Jewelry

Becky Thatcher DesignsGorgeous, unique pieces, clearly inspired by Lake Michigan and surrounding woods and beaches.

Artwork

Gwen Frostic – Nature-inspired stationery and other items made from the artist’s original block prints.

The Artisan’s Bench – a gallery of work from Michigan artists; small selection of Motawi tiles.

Ken Scott – Stunning photography of northern Michigan and the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore area. I’m looking at one of his images, Dune Lily, which is hanging in my office as I type.
